Dr. Gulay Tegin, MD

I received my medical degree in Turkey. After graduating from medical school, I completed two years of mandatory service as a general practitioner in an underserved area near the Syrian border during the beginning of Syrian Civil War. While working there, I noticed that people mostly seek help for their physical illnesses and wounds. But some injuries/sufferings are not seen and yet pain the most. I realized that invisible wounds are the hardest to heal. It requires love, patience, understanding, and emotional support for their closure. I came to the USA to gain a deep understanding on the biology of brain and mental illnesses. I worked at the Mood Disorder Research Laboratory for 3 years. I did some clinical work and volunteering at the Survivors of Torture Recovery Center which is founded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Then, I completed my adult psychiatry residency training at the University of Louisville. I have treated a diverse population of patients with many different diagnoses. I utilize the bio-psycho-social approach and provide medication management with psychotherapy to address mental health issues. I am dedicated to providing a holistic, emphatic and patient-centered approach.
